Open Burning Prohibition Lifted

For Immediate Release

Sept. 17, 2018

PARKSVILLE Effective at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, all open burning will once again be allowed throughout the Coastal Fire Centres jurisdiction. This is due to recent rainfall and cooler temperatures, which have reduced wildfire risks in the region.

All open fires will be permitted, along with the use of tiki torches, burn barrels, fireworks, sky lanterns and binary exploding targets. People undertaking any open burning should use caution and be aware of local conditions that might impact their ability to burn safely and control their open fires.

Zeballos Fire Update – September 4, 2018

Tuesday, September 4, 2018 Wildfire update:

The fire had very little movement since our last update. Hot spots throughout the fire zone continue to smolder. BCWS crews fought the hot spots behind homes and have been bucketing hot spots with a heavy helicopter on the South flank when required. The sprinkler system set up behind homes on Pandora Crescent will remain in place. The Comox Structural Protection Unit and medics have been released from their duties in the Village and have returned home.

Fortunately, the forecast for rain in the coming days will help in finally putting this fire to rest!
