Zeballos Heritage Board – Museum Host

The position will be from June 26th to September 4th 2018. Salary will be $15 per hour. Hours will be 24 hours per week with some weekend and some evening work. Specific hours will be negotiated with the successful candidate.

The qualifications we require are as follows:

  • Comfortable dealing with the public.
  • Interested and knowledgeable in Zeballos History.
  • Dress appropriately at all times.
  • Willing and able to do light gardening and housekeeping.
  • May be required to lift heavy objects.
  • Able to work alone and/or without supervision.

Museum Curator Needed

MUSEUM CURATOR NEEDED

Do you enjoy sharing the history of Zeballos?

Council would like to invite all interested parties to apply to the village office. Must have an interest in local history. Please submit a letter to the Village Office by May 23, 2018 explaining your interest and any skills you may bring to this position.

This is a volunteer position, but the museum curator may also be hired as the Part-Time Seasonal Museum Host. Please note in your letter if you would also like to be considered for that position.

Duties will include:

  • acquisitioning or de-acquisitioning artifacts
  • cataloguing artifacts
  • attending to the museum displays
  • responding to inquiries, via email or other
  • being available to open museum for visitors upon request or by appointment
  • maintaining gift shop inventory
  • managing sales, submit funds to village office, record receipts
  • fulfilling any other related duties as requested by village office or heritage committee
  • supervising summer museum host as required. This is in conjunction with members of committee, if needed.

The Zeballos Heritage Board oversees the operation of the Museum and will provide support for the Curator. Training will be provided. Optional attendance to the Board meetings will be encouraged.

HELP WANTED – Public Works Foreman

The Village of Zeballos requires a full-time, Public Works Foreman.

Reporting to the CAO, the Public Works Foreman is a working supervisor responsible for organizing the safe and efficient day-to-day operations of the public works department. The Public Works Foreman also includes the role of Chief Water Distribution Operator.

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE
Based on direction provided by the CAO, the Public Works Foreman is responsible to develop and execute the annual Public Works department plan for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the following services:

  • Municipal Roads and Bridges;
  • Municipal Parks and Lands;
  • Municipal Facilities and Structures (including the Municipal Cemeteries);
  • Municipal Vehicles (including firefighting vehicles);
  • Storm Drainage;
  • Water Supply and Distribution;
  • Sanitary Sewer; and
  • Public Works Department tools and equipment.

The Public Works Foreman is an effective team member whose contributions assist in the achievement of department and organizational objectives.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Must possess and maintain a Class 5 Driver’s License
  • The following EOCP certifications, with a willingness and ability to upgrade within 2 years:
    • Small Water Systems
    • Level 1 Wastewater Collections
  • Certificate in Public Works Supervision; OR an equivalent in education, training and experience; including the successful completion of a course (accredited course or a course of 25 hours or more in duration from an accredited school or program) in one of the following:
    • Management & Leadership Skills
    • Project Management
  • Must possess a willingness to participate in training sessions to develop or enhance required skills.

This is a full time, temporary (1 year) position starting at $60,000 per year, starting as soon as possible.

HELP WANTED – Finance and Administration Clerk

The Village of Zeballos requires a full-time, permanent Finance and Administrative Clerk. This position reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).

The Village of Zeballos is on the Northwest coast of Vancouver Island, where the Zeballos River meets the Zeballos Inlet. It is part of the Strathcona Regional District (SRD), and occupies a portion of the traditional territory of the Ehattesaht/Chinehkint First Nation, in the northern region of the larger Nuu-chah-nulth First Nations territory. Zeballos is the smallest municipality in BC, with just 107 year-round residents living on 1.45 km2. It is a remote community, located at the end of a 42 km active logging road, known for its gold mining history, world-class salmon fishing, kayaking, hiking, and other outdoor adventure opportunities. POSITION SUMMARY
The Village is seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to carry out a wide range of functions with a high degree of accuracy and professionalism. As part of a two-person administrative team, the Finance and Administrative Clerk provides support to the CAO, Village Council, and the Public Works Foreman. This person must be able to prioritize the workload to meet strict deadlines, maintain corporate confidentiality, and adapt to changes quickly.

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE

  • Reception and front counter coverage, including cashier duties;
  • Mail collection, distribution, and processing;
  • Records Management, including filing;
  • Moderately complex accounting functions, including account reconciliation, property tax and utility bill processing, preparing journal entries, AR/AP functions;
  • The work is performed within established policies and procedures and requires a high degree of accuracy and effective communications with internal and external contacts.
  • Coordination of meetings and special events, including agenda prep and taking minutes;
  • Website maintenance using WordPress; and
  • Other support tasks as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Confident, courteous, and reliable
  • Proficient in MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Discretion with confidential information
  • Experience in point-of-sale and cash handling
  • Basic accounting knowledge and experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work well independently and with others
  • Familiarity with MAIS municipal software considered an asset
  • Preference will be given to candidates with at least two (2) years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, and/or municipal finance functions.

This is a permanent, full time position starting at $39,000 per year. After a six-month probation period, this position provides a generous health and benefits package, including Municipal Pension Plan, flexibility, and professional development.

HELP WANTED – Part Time Garbage Truck Driver

The Public Works Department requires a temporary part-time truck driver with class 5 license.

Hours may be limited to Wednesday and Saturday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The duties are bi-weekly garbage pickup and landfill monitoring.

This is an outside, all weather job; which is physically demanding and requires the successful applicant to be in good health.

Applicants must have safety footwear and rain gear.

Details: Cut and clear the alders and other vegetation on the east shore of the Zeballos River from the Cevallos Campsite to the Sugarloaf Bridge.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Roots must stay in the ground.
  • Stumps left as short as possible to reduce the risk of snaring floating debris and hampering its path to open water.
  • The resulting logs and branches must be disposed of in a manner agreeable to the Village.
  • Cevallos Campsite may be used as a work yard during the project.
  • The Village Chipper may be available for use.

Requirements:

  • Valid faller certificate
  • WCB Insurance coverage
