Seasonal Part-time Receptionist/File Clerk

Nestled on Vancouver Island’s northwest coast, Zeballos is at the head of Zeballos Inlet, a gateway to Nootka Sound. Located on Ehattesaht Chinehkint First Nation territory, it’s renowned for its gold mining history and growing appeal to adventure-seeking travellers.

The Village of Zeballos is currently welcoming applications for the seasonal part-time position of Receptionist/File Clerk from May 28 to September 7, 2024, with the potential for transitioning into a permanent part-time role for the suitable candidate.

The Receptionist/File Clerk serves as the initial point of contact for visitors and customers at the Village Office. They also manage correspondence and perform various clerical tasks. They play a pivotal role in ensuring smooth operations and effective communication within the office environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet visitors in a professional, friendly, and courteous manner.
  • Answer phone calls and emails and direct them to the appropriate department or personnel.
  • Manage incoming mail and distribute it to the correct departments or personnel.
  • Provide basic information about the municipality to visitors and customers.
  • Process payments and handle monetary transactions for goods and services.
  • Maintain an organized filing system for documents, records, and other paperwork.
  • Assist with other clerical duties as required.
  • Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to privacy protocols.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong communication, writing, and computer skills
  • Previous experience in an office setting preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail

Baseline hours: 20 hours per week, Monday – Friday, from May 28 to September 7, 2024, with the potential for transitioning into a permanent part-time role for the suitable candidate.

Wages: $20.00/hour with 4% in lieu of vacation

Seasonal Part-time Town Ambassador

Nestled on Vancouver Island’s northwest coast, Zeballos is at the head of Zeballos Inlet, a gateway to Nootka Sound. Located on Ehattesaht Chinehkint First Nation territory, it’s renowned for its gold mining history and growing appeal to adventure-seeking travellers.

The Village of Zeballos is currently inviting applications to fill the unique, seasonal
part-time position of Town Ambassador from May 28 to September 7, 2024.

The role entails engaging with visitors and locals outdoors at key locations around the Village and serving as a host at the Zeballos Museum. As the Town Ambassador, you’ll be a key representative of the Village, assisting visitors and locals in adhering to parking, boat launching, moorage, and camping regulations while also providing valuable tourist information and cultivating a positive experience for everyone.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct foot patrols of the parking lots, municipal wharf, seaplane dock, campsite, and RV park to help visitors and locals comply with relevant user fees and regulations.
  • Engage with and educate the public on appropriate locations for parking, mooring, and boat launching.
  • Provide tourist information.
  • Notify the Supervisor of any issues, concerns, or deficiencies of the patrolled Village properties or ongoing non-compliant users and misuse of facilities.
  • Open the museum and provide historical information to visitors.
  • Perform light janitorial duties and retail sales at the museum.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to engage and interact with the public positively and assertively.
  • Able to work on your feet outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Basic cash handling and record-keeping skills.
  • Able to work independently.
  • Previous experience in customer service preferred.
  • A knowledge of local history is an asset.

Baseline hours: 25 hours per week, Tuesday – Saturday, from May 28 to September 7, 2024.

Wages: $20.00/hour with 4% in lieu of vacation
