The community of Zeballos is situated 151 kilometers north of the City of Campbell River. The Village of Zeballos has an exciting new seasonal opportunity for a Town Ambassador! We are looking for that person that shines to represent the Village during our peak summer months while providing a positive experience to our visitors. Responsibilities:
Engaging with visitors and providing information as requested, including distribution of maps or other printed visitor material. Early morning and late afternoon patrols of the municipal wharf, seaplane dock, foreshore and overflow parking lot(s), campsite, and RV site, for payment and compliance monitoring/education. A strong emphasis to be placed on relationship building through ongoing education with the public. Notifying Supervisor of any issues, concerns or deficiencies of the afore-mentioned Village properties, or ongoing non-compliant users and/or misuse of facilities. Opening and closing of the museum mid-afternoon including providing information to visitors. Light janitorial duties and merchandise sales at the Museum may be included.
Requirements:
This is a seasonal part-time position of up to 25 hours per week, from Wednesday to Sunday. The hours will be structured in a split shift (actual hours to be determined) of two components and it will be a walking position. The first, and primary role of the Town Ambassador will be to enhance visitor experience and provide information as requested. The second aspect of the position will require patrols of parking lots, wharfs and docks, camping and RV sites. The final component will entail hosting visitors, and some merchandise sales at the local museum which will include keeping the facility tidy. The length of term for this position is from mid-May until the Sunday of the Labour Day weekend with a strong commitment to work weekends throughout the summer months.
Basic Qualifications:
- Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Ability to do return patrols on foot from the foreshore to the RV park
- Ability to engage and interact with the public in a positive manner
- Ability to provide information in a concise and clear manner
- Basic cash handling and record keeping skills
- Able to work independently
- Sufficient physical strength, stamina and coordination to perform the position in all weather conditions
- A knowledge of local history would be an asset
An RCMP Criminal Record Check will be required. The rate of pay is $20 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay.
